All of us are carrying around smartphones all the time these days. They are clearly one of the most useful pieces of technology to have ever existed – even if they sometimes have their downsides. But if you find that you are getting through your phones far too quickly, as many people do, then you might want to take a step back and think about what you can do about it. As it happens, there are a lot of steps you can take to make your smartphone last longer and in this article we are going to take a look at some of the major ones.

Extend And Replace The Battery

It’s important to remember that the most common reason people feel the need to replace their phones is also the most easily fixable problem. In a word, it’s the battery. If your battery life is nowhere near what is used to be, that can be very frustrating. But it is of course just exactly what happens with batteries of all kinds, and there’s not a great deal you can do about it, besides a few simple things which can help temporarily.

Of these, the best thing you can do is to avoid overusing it. But if that is not possible for you, you can make sure that you are charging it in the right way. That means not overcharging, and never letting it get below about twenty percent or so. If you can do that, your battery is going to last considerably longer. Similarly, you should aim to keep the screen brightness within acceptable limits, as having it too bright can mean that you struggle to keep the battery going for too long. You might also want to disable background apps and services you don’t really need.

Despite doing all that, eventually it will stop working too well. The best thing to do at that point – short of replacing the entire phone – is to get a new battery. These are pretty cheap, but in some models you will have to get an engineer to install the battery for you. In other models, it is a simple case of opening it up and doing it yourself. However, it is going to mean you can get another few years out of your phone this way, so it’s definitely worth your while.

Avoid Water Damage

One of the most common reasons that people have to have their phones replaced is because the device suffered some kind of water damage. When this happens, it can be a very stressful situation indeed, but there are some things you can do to ensure this doesn’t happen, or is much less likely to happen at any rate. One of the best ways to do this is to get some kind of gripping material put onto the phone, so you are less likely to drop it in water or liquid of any kind.

You might also want to think about getting some LifeProof cases, so that your phone is rendered waterproof. That way, even if it rains on the device or it does get dropped into water, you should be okay and the phone should survive. Many a phone has been saved this way, so it’s definitely worth pursuing this particular kind of protection for your own phone.

Keep It Clean

Most people don’t ever really think about cleaning their device, except to give the screen the occasional wipe. But if you want it to last a long time, you are going to want to think about keeping the phone as clean as possible. If you fail to do this, dirt and so on can get into the device and before you know it you can find yourself without a fully functioning smartphone.

Probably the best way to clean a smartphone is to get one of those air pressure canisters and use it to get the debris out of all those nooks and crannies. Open up the phone and get right in there, and you will find that you can clean it out pretty fully that way. It is therefore going to last so much longer than if you don’t do that.

Protect The Screen

A common issue with smartphones is that the screen often cracks. This can happen from a simple fall, and it is a nuisance. Sometimes, people hang on to their smartphones even after the screen has cracked, but at other times you might want to try and avoid it altogether. If it does get cracked of course, you can always replace it. But you will find it much better to simply avoid it cracking in the first place, if possible. Of course, this is something that a case is always going to help with, as it does offer a level of protection for the screen.

Minimise Notifications

There are a lot of great reasons to keep your notifications to a minimum. For one thing, it encourages you to use the phone less often, which is good for your mental health. But it’s also about ensuring that you don’t have the battery constantly running down all that much. If you want to keep the phone lasting for a lot longer, you can achieve that in this simple way. Just go to settings and turn off all notifications on the phone. That way, you should be able to ensure it lasts so much longer.

If you get it fixed right away however, you could be in luck. Whenever necessary, get your phone checked out by a professional and ensure it is repaired properly. This will help to keep it going for so much longer.

If you do all these things, your smartphone is bound to last a lot longer, and you will get so much more out of it.
