When it comes to your career, many of us strive to get to the best level we can get to. With promotions and excelling at our careers, it can often mean increasing our earning potential, getting a better quality of life and overall just having that sense of achievement. However, not all of us are lucky enough to experience career progression and often it isn’t because we don’t want it, we simply don’t know how to get it or have the confidence to go for it. So I wanted to share with you four ways that you could excel in your current career helping you to earn more.
Learn new things and skills
One of the first things you could consider doing would be to brush up on the skills you already have. Perhaps you need to think about reading up online on different subjects and learn new things, or even consider courses such as organizational leadership degree online so that you can really magnify the skills you already have and add to the repertoire of them. This can show that you are willing to learn new things, but also the things you do learn could help you get the promotion or be considered for new roles within your business,
Have the confidence to speak out and show initiative in the workplace
Confidence is something that we are not born with, we learn to increase it as life goes on, and so having the confidence to speak out in work can be daunting at first. Being in a meeting, for example, and knowing that you have an idea and I suggestion that could work, but not speaking out through fear of how you may look or sound is a huge mistake. Employers are looking for people that show initiative in the workplace, so have the confidence to speak your mind, share your opinion and critique, and even accepting that you are wrong can show attributes that people are looking for when hiring for new jobs.
Take things seriously
It may not sound like rocket science, but you do need to take things seriously in work if you want to be considered for new roles in the future. Someone that jokes around, perhaps doesn’t get work done to deadlines, compared with someone who does, may be overlooked, no matter how good you are at your job. Everyone enjoys a laugh and happiness and positivity in the workplace is essential, but also know when to take things seriously.
Be bold and ask about career progression and apply for roles
Finally, be bold and ask about career progression. Speaking with your line manager about your career and where you might see yourself should give you helpful insight into what your next steps may be and how you can take them. Also, when a job does come up don’t be afraid to apply and put yourself forward, even if the time isn’t right now, the feedback and experience is well worth it.
I hope that these tips help you to excel in your current career and earn more money in the process.
