Looking for a new cool strategy game to play? While there are many popular releases to choose from, there are so many great games that are often overlooked. Below are a few strategy games that are seriously overrated and that could be worth playing.
World In Conflict
World In Conflict was released in 2007. It’s a military cold-war-themed strategy game that arguably paved the way for games like Wargame. The game is set in a world in which the Berlin wall never fell and conflict is now ravaging Europe. It’s filled with great cutscenes and voice acting, feeling almost more like an action game than a strategy game at points. World In Conflict didn’t get as much love as it deserved when it was first released, but has become a cult classic since. The graphics hold up pretty well today and you can still play multiplayer to this day.
Politics & War
Politics & War is an online multiplayer strategy game that allows players to create a nation. You can then form alliances or wage war with other players’ nations. On top of this you get to create your own flag, choose your tax rate and decide which laws should be passed within your nation. Variables like your nation’s crime rating, environmental rating, happiness rating and economy rating can all affect the game. Politics & War was created by a high school student and is free to play – it currently has a quarter of a million players and is growing.
Frozen Synapse
Frozen Synapse is a unique strategy game in that it combines real-time and turn-based elements. Each player controls a squad of units. Both players are then able to plan out their moves in advance to see how they will play out before initiating them for real. This creates some very interesting dynamics. You can play Frozen Synapse on Steam.
Earth 2150
Earth 2150 allows you to play as one of three factions: The United Civilized States, The Eurasian Dynasty and the Lunar Dynasty. The game has some pretty cool features such as the ability to design your own units. You also have to make sure your units have enough supplies, including enough ammunition. Released in 2000, Earth 2150 does have some clunky features, but has otherwise aged very well. You can play the Earth 2150 collection on Steam. For those that love sci-fi strategy games, it’s definitely worthwhile playing.
Rusted Warfare
Rusted Warfare has a very retro design to it that may put some players off. However, it makes up for it with some impressive gameplay. The game contains 50 unique units with various upgrades that you can make to each of them. It’s a pretty fast-paced game in that you don’t have to wait for ages to construct buildings and produce units. Battles can meanwhile get quite intense – the game is able to support battles containing thousands of units at a time. You can play the game as an app or you can play it on PC through Steam.
