3 Reasons Why You Shouldn’t Buy The Samsung Galaxy Grand Neo

Samsung unveiled the new Samsung Galaxy Grand Neo without much hype or any major announcement, as it usually does with other smartphones. Now the question arises, why? Is it because the smartphone is nothing more than just a space filler?

Samsung’s Galaxy series smartphones have been an instant hit since their release, with the higher-end models commanding a majority of consumer interest. Coming to the Galaxy Grand Neo, the device doesn’t look very promising at its price point. It is a cut down version of the Galaxy Grand 2 and even last year’s Galaxy Grand. Here are five reasons you shouldn’t buy the Galaxy Grand Neo.

Below Par Display & Image Quality

Although the handset sports a 5-inch screen, the display is very poor as the device has a low pixel density of 186 PPI. The original Galaxy Grand which still sells worldwide offers a higher screen sharpness. The Moto G, which comes at a lower price than that of the Galaxy Grand Neo, it offers (720 x 1280 pixels) screen resolution which produces a pixel density of 326 ppi. It is not an IPS LCD panel so you should be prepared for average viewing angles. Compared to the ordinary screen of the Grand Neo, Moto G is a much better screen due to its increased sharpness and Corning’s Gorilla Glass protection.

The Galaxy Grand Neo sports a 5MP primary rear-facing camera and a VGA secondary front-facing camera. Keeping in mind the price, the VGA camera serves more as a showpiece. At a similar price range the Samsung Galaxy Grand sports an 8 MP primary rear camera with LED flash and a 2 MP front camera. Even the Moto G has a 1.3 MP front camera compared to the VGA camera of the Galaxy Grand Neo and that too at a lower price. Even the Xolo Q1000 S offers much better features as the device features a 13 MP rear and 5 MP front camera.

Unimpressive Processing Performance & Hardware Internals

Samsung’s Galaxy Grand Neo melds ultra-basic specs with a mid-size screen

The Galaxy Grand Neo comes with an older Broadcom BCM23550 quad-core processor and just 1GB of RAM. It is nothing great considering the fact that similar priced handsets from Micromax offers double of what the Galaxy Grand Neo does. The Galaxy Grand Neo is equipped with a 2100 Li-Ion mAh battery which supports talk time of about 11 hours. On the other hand, The Moto G features a 2070 Li-Ion mAh battery which supports talk time of about 24 hours.

Based on the above parameters, spending on the Samsung Galaxy Grand Neo isn’t worth a shot when there are better options available. The device do not possess any feature that is worth considering it over others in this category, especially when there are stellar alternatives from the likes of Xolo, Micromax and other vendors.

Heavy, Bloatware Loaded Software

The Samsung Galaxy Grand Neo comes with a dated Android 4.2 Jelly Bean operating system, laden with Samsung’s own TouchWiz Nature UX. Samsung has added a lot of unnecessary apps and software features to the device’s software. Not only the software customisations from Samsung make this device slow and unresponsive, there is no sight of Android 4.4 KitKat update for this device. On the other hand, devices like Motorola Moto G are already on Android 4.4 KitKat and are supposed to get the Android 5 L update in the coming months.

With all these issues plaguing the device, we think that it is better that you not buy the Samsung Galaxy Grand Neo if you are considering one.
